The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has risen in defence of the state Governor, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, warning detractors against what it called the “deliberate twisting” of his recent remarks on peace and unity.
In a statement issued on Saturday, September 20, 2025, and signed by its Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo Esq., the party said some politicians desperate for relevance had taken the governor’s comments out of context in an attempt to smear his image.
The governor, while addressing stakeholders earlier in the week, had stressed his administration’s zero-tolerance for political or ethnic conflict, declaring:
“You cannot fight under my watch, I will not allow it, not in my two tenures while I will be governor. Maybe after me, but while I am governor, peace will reign in Delta State. Every Deltan regardless of their tribe and religion voted for me. I am not going to take sides. My concern is for the general peace in Delta State so that I can continue to do MORE for all Deltans.”
According to the APC, the message was a straightforward commitment to lasting peace and inclusive governance, yet political opponents were trying to “weaponize” it for selfish purposes.
“The governor’s position is clear,” the APC stressed. “He belongs to all Deltans, irrespective of tribe, religion, or political leaning. His sole concern is to safeguard peace so that development can thrive. Twisting this for political gain is a sign of fear by those intimidated by his achievements.”
The party further linked the governor’s stance to his M.O.R.E. Agenda, which focuses on Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security. Onojeghuo noted that Delta State is currently enjoying greater safety and stability than in recent years, crediting the administration’s emphasis on fairness, equity, and justice.
“Through the M.O.R.E. Agenda, the governor has strengthened security, expanded infrastructure, and opened up opportunities for economic growth. His fairness in governance is the bedrock of the peace we are seeing today. Propaganda cannot erase this,” Onojeghuo said.
The APC therefore urged residents to ignore what it described as “false narratives” from opposition figures, assuring that the governor remains committed to leaving behind a legacy of peace, security, and sustainable development for all Deltans.
