Delta Assembly Resumes Plenary As Speaker, Guwor Reaffirms Commitment to Service, Development

The Delta State House of Assembly resumed plenary on Tuesday following its annual recess, with the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, welcoming members back to legislative business.

In his address, the Speaker emphasized that the 8th Assembly would be defined by unity, dedication, and a strong commitment to service above personal interest.

He assured that the legislature would prioritize the passage of laws that promote economic growth, social justice, and sustainable development, while maintaining its oversight responsibilities to ensure transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public resources.

Rt. Hon. Guwor reiterated the House’s resolve to collaborate effectively with the Executive arm of government and other stakeholders, without compromising the independence of the legislature.

He also pledged that the Assembly would respond proactively to the needs of Deltans in critical sectors such as infrastructure, youth empowerment, education, healthcare, and security.

Reflecting on the recent Leadership Development Training programme attended by members, the Speaker noted that the initiative enhanced their legislative capacity. He promised that the knowledge acquired would be translated into effective lawmaking, impactful committee work, and thorough oversight activities.

The Speaker also commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the ongoing infrastructural projects across the state and the successful hosting of the 9th National Youth Games.

During plenary, the House received a report from its Committee on Public Petitions, presented by the Chairman and member representing Ughelli North I Constituency, Hon. Matthew Omonade.

The report addressed the petition of Mr. Silverline Oristerenojo, who alleged unlawful premature retirement from the College of Education, Warri.

After reviewing the findings, the committee recommended that the petition be dismissed for lack of merit, the retirement upheld, and the petitioner barred from bringing the matter before the Assembly again.

The Speaker subsequently directed the Clerk to forward the House’s resolution to the appropriate authorities.
