The Delta State Government has successfully brokered peace between Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited (HESOL), operators of Oil Mining Lease (OML) 30, and its host landlords, resolving lingering issues over rent increment and expired lease agreements.
Presiding over a mediation meeting in Asaba, the State Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Hon. (Chief) Peter Uviejitobor, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful resolution, commending both parties for their patience and willingness to engage in dialogue.
As part of the agreement reached, HESOL has been directed to commence payment of the revised rent demanded by the host landlords, effective January 2025. The Commissioner also urged the company to expedite the verification of all expired leases to facilitate prompt resolution and payment.
Chief Uviejitobor emphasized the importance of peace and cooperation in ensuring the smooth operation of the oil and gas sector, noting that “no business can thrive in an atmosphere of rancor.”
He reiterated the commitment of the Ministry of Oil and Gas to mediate and resolve disputes within the sector to promote stability, economic growth, and prosperity in host communities.
“The Delta State Government, through this ministry, will continue to collaborate with stakeholders and security agencies to address any issues that may threaten peace, stability, and sustainable oil production in the state,” he stated.
Highlighting Delta State’s status as Nigeria’s leading oil-producing state, Uviejitobor described it as “the most peaceful and safest state for doing business,” adding that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is fully committed to strengthening this reputation under the Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda.
He called on all stakeholders in the oil and gas industry to support the government’s efforts in maintaining peace and security in the region.
Representatives of both HESOL and the OML 30 host landlords expressed confidence in the state government’s leadership and pledged continued collaboration to sustain peace and development in their communities.
