In a major political reawakening ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has formally led thousands of members of the Obidient Movement in Delta State into a strategic alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring their total support for the party as a vehicle for national rebirth.
Mr. Obi made the declaration on Saturday in Asaba alongside the Delta State Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Comrade Favour Emerure, as they officially adopted the ADC as their political platform to advance shared ideals of good governance, accountability and people-centred leadership.
Addressing a mammoth crowd of supporters, Mr. Obi called for unity, discipline and steadfastness among members, stressing that national transformation can only be achieved through collective action. “Without unity, nothing meaningful can be achieved. We must come together as one people, driven by a common purpose to rescue our country,” he said.
He decried Nigeria’s worsening economic and security situation, noting that rising poverty levels and insecurity were symptoms of poor governance. Urging Nigerians to look beyond ethnic and religious divisions, Obi said, “Nigeria is richly blessed but poorly governed. Public resources meant for development are being diverted to amass personal wealth. The ADC provides a credible platform to birth the new Nigeria we all desire.”
In his remarks, the Delta State Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Comrade Favour Emerure, described the alignment with the ADC as a “strategic convergence of purpose and values.” According to him, “This is a union founded on shared progressive ideology and an unwavering commitment to building a new Nigeria anchored on competence, fairness and inclusiveness.”
Emerure added that members of the movement in Delta State were convinced that joining the ADC would strengthen their contribution to national discourse. “We reaffirm our support for leadership based on competence, electoral integrity and a united front across communities, wards and local government areas,” he stated.
Welcoming the new members, the National Chief Whip of the ADC, Elder Festus Gbenoba, described the move as timely and patriotic. “Your decision to align with the ADC is a bold step towards salvaging our nation. We urge you to complete your registration and obtain your membership cards to fully integrate into the party,” he said.
Earlier, the Delta State Chairman of the ADC, Mr. Okolie Austine, said the alliance underscored a shared commitment to the party’s constitution, internal democracy and leadership ideals. He formally welcomed members of the Obidient Movement into the party, assuring them of inclusiveness and equal opportunities.
Goodwill messages were delivered by the National Chairman of the ADC, Senator David Mark, represented by the Deputy National Chairman (South-South), Senator Andrew Uchendu; former Presidential Adviser, Professor Pat Utomi; National Woman Leader, Hon. Naomi Lasara; National Youth Leader, Balarabe Rufai; and Obidient Movement chieftain, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye. They all called for a united front capable of engendering a more prosperous, secure and just Nigeria.
The high point of the event was the official presentation of the ADC flag to the Delta State Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, symbolising the group’s full integration into the party and their readiness for the political journey ahead.
