Members of the Integrity Group, Delta State Chapter, in collaboration with the Nigerian Union of Contributory Pension Scheme, Delta State Chapter, have endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for re-election in the 2027 general elections.
The groups made their position known at a combined meeting held in Asaba, the Delta State capital, under the leadership of the National Convener of the Integrity Group, Dr. Oke Idawene.
Speaking at the meeting, the National Convener, Dr. Idawene, enlightened retirees on what he described as the gains recorded under the Oborevwori administration, noting that the progress was enhanced by the alignment between the state government and the administration of President Bola Tinubu at the federal level.
Dr. Idawene particularly highlighted the release of ten billion naira by the state government to offset outstanding pension arrears, describing the intervention as a demonstration of Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to improving the welfare and living conditions of retirees in the state.
He urged members of the pensioners’ community to remain informed about government policies and programmes, stressing the need for them to support administrations that, in his words, prioritise the welfare of senior citizens and other vulnerable members of society.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Integrity Group, Delta State Chapter, Mr. Bolum Nwachukwu, said the group was impressed by what he described as the commitment of the Tinubu and Oborevwori administrations to addressing issues affecting retirees and senior citizens.
Nwachukwu maintained that pensioners, having contributed significantly to the growth and development of Delta State and Nigeria during their years of active service, deserved policies that would guarantee dignity and improved welfare in retirement.
In his remarks, the Director of Labour and Mobilisation of the Integrity Group, Mr. Lawson Efenudu, said the administrations of President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori had continued to demonstrate concern for the plight of senior citizens.
Efenudu said the group would continue to engage with relevant stakeholders and mobilise support for policies and programmes that promote the welfare of pensioners and other categories of citizens.
Responding, the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Contributory Pension Scheme, Delta State Chapter, Comrade Joseph Okporuma, expressed the readiness of members of the union to work with the Integrity Group in mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Okporuma, who spoke alongside other members of the union, said pensioners were capable of playing a significant role in shaping the political direction of the state and the country through their votes and grassroots mobilisation.
He called on members of the union to remain united and participate actively in the democratic process, while urging governments at all levels to sustain policies aimed at improving the welfare of retirees.
The meeting also provided an avenue for members to deliberate on issues affecting pensioners, the implementation of government policies and the need for greater collaboration between pensioners’ associations and relevant stakeholders.
The groups reaffirmed their commitment to mobilising their members across Delta State in support of the re-election bids of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in 2027, citing what they described as their administration’s interventions in the welfare of senior citizens.
