U.S. Warns Nigerian Visa Applicants: Disclose All Social Media Handles or Risk Denial

The United States Mission in Nigeria has issued a strong advisory to visa applicants, urging full disclosure of all social media usernames used over the past five years when completing the DS-160 visa application form.

In an official statement shared via its X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Mission reminded applicants that failure to provide accurate and complete information regarding their social media history may result in visa denial and jeopardise future travel opportunities to the United States.

“Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used in the last five years on the DS-160 visa application form,” the Mission stated.

It further stressed that all applicants must certify the truthfulness and accuracy of the information provided before signing and submitting the form. Any omission, misrepresentation, or incomplete disclosure — particularly concerning social media activity — will not be taken lightly.

“Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before they sign and submit,” the Mission added. “Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas.”

This reminder serves as part of ongoing efforts by the U.S. to strengthen its vetting processes for visa applicants worldwide. Nigerian applicants are therefore urged to comply strictly with all requirements to avoid complications during their visa processing.
