Sen. Joel-Onowakpo Receives ‘Ibetariwei’ Title at Gbaramatu Festival

The Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas has been conferred with the prestigious traditional title of Ibetariwei by His Royal Majesty, Oboro-Gbaraun II, JP, Aketekpe, Agadagba, the Pere of the Ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom.

The honour was bestowed during the grand finale of the annual Amaseikumor Festival—featuring Gbaraun-Egbesu, Ibolomobo-Ere and Amaseikumor celebrations—held in Oporoza Town, the traditional headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom.

The colourful event attracted a high-profile audience, including traditional rulers, distinguished senators, members of the House of Representatives, political stakeholders, community leaders, as well as family members, friends, and well-wishers. The conferment was widely described as a recognition of excellence in leadership and effective representation.

Speaking after receiving the title, the lawmaker expressed profound appreciation to the monarch and the people of the Izon nation for the honour.

“I sincerely appreciate the Pere of the Ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom and all my friends from the Izon nation for this honour,” he said.

He also extended gratitude to his colleagues in the National Assembly who attended the ceremony in solidarity.

“To my colleagues from the National Assembly who came to felicitate with me, my appreciation knows no bounds,” he added.

Reaffirming his commitment to his constituents, the senator pledged to intensify efforts toward the development of Delta South.

“As the Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, I am committed to the development and progress of my people. I will continue to stand firm in defence of Delta South and advocate for the advancement of the region,” he stated.

He further emphasized his resolve to attract meaningful development and empower his constituents.

“With this recognition, I am resolved to do even more for Delta South Senatorial District. Thank you for believing in me and in our shared future,” he said.

The Amaseikumor Festival remains one of the most significant cultural events in Gbaramatu Kingdom, celebrating heritage, unity, and community pride.
