Police Week: Akwa Ibom CP Presents ₦53.7m to Families of Fallen Officers

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has presented a total sum of ₦53.7 million to families of 34 deceased police officers as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Week celebration. The gesture, described as both solemn and significant, was carried out by the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police.

The event, held during the ongoing Police Week, honoured officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, with the funds amounting to ₦53,755,844.94 distributed to their next of kin. The initiative underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to supporting families left behind by fallen personnel.

Speaking at the ceremony, CP Azare emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifices of the deceased officers, noting that their service to the nation would never be forgotten. “This occasion reminds us of the sacrifices made by brave officers who stood in the gap for society. Their legacies will forever remain etched in the annals of the Nigeria Police Force,” he said.

Addressing the bereaved families, the police commissioner acknowledged their pain and reassured them of the Force’s continued support. “The cheques being presented today are not mere financial instruments. They represent our collective gratitude, our recognition of sacrifice, and our commitment to the families of our fallen heroes,” Azare stated, adding that no amount of money could replace the lives lost.

He also commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for prioritizing personnel welfare, highlighting improvements in the timely payment of benefits and enhanced support systems. According to him, the current leadership of the Force has brought renewed focus to the well-being of officers and their families.

CP Azare further charged serving officers to remain committed to their duties, describing policing as a noble profession that demands courage, discipline, and, at times, the ultimate sacrifice. He urged them to honour their fallen colleagues through professionalism and dedication to service.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Michael Michael Urua expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Police Force for its support. He said the gesture showed that the sacrifices of the fallen officers had not been forgotten, especially in their time of grief.
