The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities, recording major successes with the arrest of 34 suspected cyber fraudsters and the foiling of an armed robbery operation with the recovery of a firearm and live ammunition.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the Command disclosed that the arrests followed coordinated, intelligence-led operations across the state.
According to the statement, operatives of the Quick Response Squad, led by SP Collins Arrey, on March 28, 2026, stormed a suspected cybercrime hideout in Opete, leading to the arrest of 34 suspects.
“The operation was triggered by a distress call from a concerned individual who reported that her younger brother had sent a message indicating he was being held against his will and forced into internet fraud,” the police said.
Edafe noted that the raid uncovered “an organised network of young suspects operating from a residential apartment converted into a cybercrime base,” adding that items recovered from the scene included 37 laptops, one iPad, seven mobile phones, and a calabash containing suspected charms.
He added, “The scale of items recovered points to a well-coordinated operation. Investigations are ongoing to unravel the full extent of their activities.”
In a separate operation on March 29, operatives of the Department of Operations intercepted a tricycle along the Ogbolu/Illah Road with two occupants acting suspiciously.
“One of the passengers attempted to flee into a nearby bush upon sighting the operatives and resisted arrest by attacking officers with a wooden object,” Edafe said. “He was, however, subdued and arrested.”
The police identified the suspect as Mustapha Musa, 32, from Kogi State, while the tricycle rider, Iyanosor Ogbizi, 34, was also taken into custody.
A search conducted on the tricycle led to the recovery of “a locally fabricated cut-to-size gun loaded with two live cartridges, confirming criminal intent,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, Yemi John Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating crime in the state.
“These operations underscore our resolve to rid Delta State of all forms of criminality through intelligence-led policing and rapid response,” the statement quoted the CP as saying.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support law enforcement agencies with credible and timely information.
