Former Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Mr Peter Obi, on Tuesday embarked on an early-morning grassroots engagement across several Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), reinforcing his advocacy for people-centred and accessible leadership.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Obi disclosed that he set out as early as 6:30 a.m. from his office in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) to engage directly with residents at the grassroots level.
His first stop was Abaji Area Council, where he campaigned alongside Dr Mohammed Ibrahim, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chairmanship candidate. Obi said he spent about one hour walking through the community, interacting with residents and listening to their concerns.
“True leadership must always be accessible, grounded in the realities of the people it serves,” Obi said, adding that engaging directly with citizens strengthened his conviction about servant leadership.
From Abaji, Obi proceeded to Kwali Area Council to support Hon. Jeremiah Badoji, the ADC chairmanship candidate. He again undertook a one-hour walk through the community, stressing that leadership is built through personal engagement rather than distance.
“Leadership is not a distant concept; it is forged through presence, endurance, and authentic connection,” he stated.
The former Anambra State governor also visited Zuba, where he rallied support for Pharmacist Iko Danjuma, the ADC chairmanship candidate for Gwagwalada Area Council. He later moved to Deidei Market in AMAC, engaging traders and residents while canvassing support for Dr Moses Paul, the ADC chairmanship candidate for the council.
At Deidei Market, Obi reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive development that cuts across all segments of society, particularly the informal sector.
“A New Nigeria is not just a dream; it is a POssibility,” Obi declared.
The grassroots tour underscores Obi’s continued emphasis on citizen engagement, accountability, and participatory leadership, themes that featured prominently during his 2023 presidential campaign.
