Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is set to officially launch the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme on Monday, August 18, 2025.
The initiative, which will benefit 10,000 widows across the state, is part of the administration’s efforts to support vulnerable groups and promote social welfare.
The flag-off ceremony will take place at the Dome Event Centre in Asaba and is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
Speaking to journalists in Asaba on Wednesday, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Social Investment and Coordinator of the scheme, Chief Isioma Okonta, said the programme is designed to provide financial assistance and empowerment packages to widows, thereby enhancing their livelihoods and economic resilience.
Okonta noted that the welfare scheme is a key component of the state government’s broader social investment agenda, which aims to alleviate economic hardship and promote inclusive development.
The event is expected to draw attendance from senior government officials, stakeholders in the social welfare sector, and representatives of women’s groups from across Delta State.
