By Peter Ogege

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Yemi Oyeniyi, on Friday embarked on an extensive Easter visibility patrol across major highways and communities in the state, as part of efforts to strengthen security and ensure a peaceful celebration.

The patrol, which took place on April 3, covered key towns including Ibusa, Ogwashi-Uku, Ozoro, Oleh, Ughelli, Warri and Effurun, with the police boss visiting area commands and monitoring officers deployed for the festive period. The exercise, according to the command, was aimed at assessing operational readiness and reinforcing police presence across Delta State.

In a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Bright Edafe, said the patrol forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure safety and security throughout the Easter period.

During the tour, Oyeniyi stopped at several checkpoints where he interacted with officers on duty, evaluating their level of alertness and preparedness. He stressed the importance of proactive policing, urging personnel to adopt intelligence-driven strategies in tackling crime.

“Officers must remain vigilant at all times. Early detection and prompt response are critical in preventing crime,” the Commissioner was quoted as saying, while addressing personnel during the patrol.

He further charged officers to maintain professionalism in their conduct, particularly in their interactions with members of the public. “You must be courteous and disciplined. Respect for human rights and policing with integrity are central to effective service delivery,” he said.

The police chief also issued a stern warning against extortion and other forms of misconduct, noting that such actions would not be tolerated under his leadership. He reiterated the command’s commitment to a people-oriented policing approach and called on officers to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force.
