DTHA Committee Visits ACTDA, Urges Support for Ongoing Development in Asaba

The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Capital Territory Development has urged residents of Asaba and it’s environs to continue supporting the State Government and the Asaba Capital Territory Development Agency in safeguarding ongoing development projects for the collective benefit of the state.

The Committee Chairman, Hon. Benson Obire, made the call when he led members of the committee on an oversight visit to the agency’s headquarters. He commended the agency for what he described as commendable infrastructural interventions currently being executed across the state capital.

Hon. Obire, who represents Warri South II Constituency, noted that the visit was part of the legislature’s constitutional mandate to monitor and evaluate the performance of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government.

He praised the Director-General of the agency, Chief Patrick Ukah, and his management team for the prudent utilization of funds, particularly the impressive execution of projects under the 2025 budget. According to him, available records show that the agency has achieved over 80 percent budget performance, reflecting accountability, efficiency, and commitment to service delivery.

The lawmaker also applauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the ongoing transformation of the state capital through strategic infrastructural investments, adding that the developmental projects align with the administration’s growth agenda.

Hon. Obire was flanked by committee members including Hon. Festus Utuama, Hon. Spencer Owhofa, Hon. Matthew Omonade, and Hon. Bino Obowomano. Together with the DG and his team, the lawmakers inspected several ongoing projects, including: Construction works on Chris Abudei Street and Ogbueshi Onochie Street in Asaba, Development of the Asaba International Market by EFAB Properties.

Construction and rehabilitation of Okwe Market/Umuapa Quarters Road, St. Theresa Catholic Church Road, and Old Oko Road in Okwe, Flood control works at Ogbe-Ilo and Ugbomanta Street, Drainage channel linking Ogbe-Ogonogo Market to Otu-Ogwu Bay and Ongoing development of the Ogbe-Ogonogo Modern Market.

While assessing the projects, Hon. Obire cautioned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drainage channels, especially those under construction, noting that such acts could frustrate flood control efforts and damage public infrastructure.

Responding, the Director-General of the agency, Chief Ukah, expressed appreciation for the lawmakers’ visit, describing it as a valuable oversight function that promotes transparency and strengthens governance processes. He emphasized that the cordial relationship between the Legislature and the Executive remains key to the state’s development progress.

Also speaking, a representative of EFAB Properties, Mr. Nyekesi, assured that the new Asaba International Market—designed to accommodate over 600 shops—would be completed on schedule, boosting commercial activities in the state capital upon completion.

The oversight visit, according to the Committee, forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure effective governance and sustainable urban development.
