The Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB has urged contractors handling its projects to remain committed to delivering quality work in line with approved standards for the benefit of Deltans.
Chairman of the Board, Hon. Samuel Mariere, made the call on Thursday in Asaba during the 2025 bid opening ceremony, where submitted bids were received in compliance with the Public Procurement Act.
Declaring the ceremony open, Mariere disclosed that Delta SUBEB had performed optimally, with over 90 percent of projects successfully executed across public primary schools in the state.
“To all our contractors, you have demonstrated capacity and dedication through the timely delivery of quality projects, including classroom blocks, office spaces, and furniture. We urge you to sustain and improve on these standards, as you remain key partners in our success,” he said.

He commended contractors for their contributions and encouraged them to enhance service delivery, noting that their efforts were integral to the board’s achievements under the current administration.
Mariere also expressed appreciation to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, describing him as a “pace setter” whose strong prioritization of education has raised the bar for SUBEB among state education boards nationwide.
“Our ‘Make a Difference’ Governor Oborevwori’s agenda has strengthened the education sector and challenged us to achieve more for our children,” he added.
The SUBEB chairman further lauded board members, collaborating agencies, management, and staff for their commitment to full compliance with procurement procedures, emphasizing that transparency and accountability remain central to project awards and execution.
In her goodwill message, the Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, represented by Mr. Lawson Akpojaro, noted that the bid opening ceremony reflects the administration’s dedication to due process and value for money.
“Every contract awarded in our public schools must reflect transparency, accountability, and value for the resources entrusted to us,” she stated.
Also speaking, Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Aisha Garba, represented by the Delta State Coordinator, Sharon Dafiluelo, commended both the Delta State Government and SUBEB for executing quality projects and maintaining strong performance in the previous year.
Other stakeholders, including the Head of Operations, Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) Delta State, Akison Adira, and Civil Society representative Augusta Keneboh, praised the board for promoting fairness, equity, and justice through a transparent contract award process.
The high point of the ceremony was the opening of the bid box containing over 100 bid proposal documents for forthcoming project execution across the state’s public primary schools.
The event was attended by first, second and third members of the Board, the board’s secretary, cross section of potential contractors as well as management and staff of SUBEB.
