Delta Govt Awards N35 Billion Effurun/Sapele Road Reconstruction to CCECC

In a decisive move to address the poor condition of a key section of the Warri/Sapele/Benin Road, the Delta State Government has awarded a reconstruction contract to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).

The project, which spans from the Spare Parts Market U-Turn in Effurun to just past Ohore Junction before Omenta Bridge, cuts across Uvwie and Okpe Local Government Areas. Advertised by the State Tenders Board, the road reconstruction is expected to be completed within 12 months.

CCECC will handle the reconstruction of 10 kilometres—five kilometres on each carriageway. The dual carriageway will be widened to 11.6 metres, including 2.8-metre shoulders. The scope of work includes stormwater drainage systems, reinforced concrete pavement, and a robust wearing course, with the project estimated at ₦35 billion.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, under the MORE Agenda, continues to prioritize infrastructure development and urban renewal. This intervention is set to significantly reduce traffic congestion, enhance regional connectivity, and stimulate economic activities along one of Delta State’s busiest transport corridors.

Although the Warri/Sapele/Benin Road falls under federal jurisdiction, years of neglect, traffic gridlock, and frequent accidents have made it a persistent concern for commuters and businesses. The state government’s proactive involvement aims to bring timely relief to road users and protect the state’s economic lifeline.

By partnering with CCECC, known for its expertise in large-scale infrastructure projects, the government is ensuring a high-quality and durable road network.

This project further reflects the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable development, extending infrastructure support even beyond state-owned roads to foster safer, more efficient access to markets, industries, and neighbouring states.
