Delta Govt. Approves N42bn Infrastructure, Power Projects to Boost Development

The Delta State Executive Council (EXCO) has approved projects valued at over ₦42 billion for road construction, erosion and flood control, and the expansion of electricity supply across the state.

The approvals were announced after the EXCO meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, with the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, saying the projects align with the administration’s commitment to accelerating development and improving living standards.

According to Aniagwu, the projects cover key road corridors, erosion control initiatives and energy infrastructure, with particular focus on enhancing power supply in the Udu area to support industrial and residential needs.

Major road works approved include the reconstruction of Phase Two of the Old Lagos–Asaba Road from Obior to Ubulu-Uku in Aniocha North and South Local Government Areas, as well as the Ute-Ogbeje to Ebuenor and Ani-Nwachokor roads in Ika North East. EXCO also approved cost reviews for some ongoing projects due to rising market prices, weather-related delays and funding challenges.

Additional approvals include the upward review of the Ute-Ogbeje to Otolokpo Road, construction of Etua-Etiti and Etua-Oliogo internal roads in Ndokwa West, completion of internal roads in Otorho-Abraka (Ethiope East), and the construction of Imohwe Street in Ughelli.

On flood and erosion control, the council approved protective works around the Asaba International Airport and extended flood control measures along Dennis Osadebay Way, from the traffic light to Abraka Road, an area prone to severe erosion.

In the power sector, EXCO sanctioned the replacement of a faulty 15MVA transformer, installation of new 300KVA transformers, and rehabilitation of substations and related equipment to improve electricity supply in Udu and surrounding communities.

Aniagwu also disclosed that Governor Oborevwori has signed the ₦1.7 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, noting that more than 70 per cent of the budget is allocated to capital expenditure, with infrastructure as a priority.

He assured residents that the administration would sustain its development drive despite the approaching election season, while adhering strictly to due process in project execution.
