Delta at 34: Speaker Guwor Urges Unity, Celebrates State’s Progress

As Delta State marks the 34th anniversary of its creation, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has called on Deltans to remain united and committed to the collective goal of a peaceful and prosperous state.

In a goodwill message to commemorate the state’s anniversary, Rt Hon Guwor commended the people of Delta for their resilience and dedication to the growth and development of the state since its creation on August 27, 1991.

The Speaker, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, noted that while significant strides have been made in various sectors over the past three decades, more work remains to be done to fully realise the dreams of the state’s founding fathers.

“To the noble sons and daughters of Delta State, I rejoice with you on this momentous occasion of our state’s 34th anniversary. As we mark this milestone, let us together reflect on our journey so far, acknowledging the strides we have made and the challenges we have overcome,” the Speaker said.

Representing Warri South West Constituency and currently serving as National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, Guwor praised the leadership of successive administrations in Delta State for fostering unity and laying the foundation for development.

He also pledged that under his leadership, the State House of Assembly would remain steadfast in its commitment to delivering legislation that supports good governance and improves the lives of all Deltans.

The Speaker lauded the efforts of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, describing him as a “focused, vibrant, resourceful and visionary administrator,” and commended the present administration’s strides in enhancing security and infrastructure development across the state.

“As we celebrate this 34th anniversary, let us continue to work together, leveraging our diversity and strengths to drive development and growth. I wish the good people of Delta State happiness, prosperity, and peace. May God bless our state and guide us towards a brighter future,” Guwor added.

Delta State was created from the former Bendel State in 1991 and has grown into one of Nigeria’s most diverse and resource-rich states, known for its oil and gas reserves, as well as its cultural and ethnic diversity.
