The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has called on local government chairmen to reinforce grassroots trust in the “Renewed Hope for More” agenda of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Chukwudi Dafe, made the appeal during oversight visits to Oshimili North and Oshimili South councils as part of the committee’s tour of the 25 local government areas in the state.
Accompanied by lawmakers Fred Martins, Oboro Preyor, Austin Uroye, Emmanuel Sinebe, Isaac Anwuzia, Ferguson Onwo, and James Augoye, Dafe emphasized the need for equitable distribution of projects across all wards and communities. He noted that fairness in the spread of development would boost public confidence in governance and encourage greater participation in elections.

While commending the performances of the Oshimili North and South chairmen, Dafe urged them to redouble efforts in improving infrastructure and living standards, stressing the importance of accountability, transparency, and prudent use of public funds. He also lauded recent improvements in council revenue generation and urged efficient deployment of resources.
Dafe, who represents Ukwuani Constituency and is a former council chairman, explained that the oversight exercise was a constitutional responsibility aimed at promoting transparency and good governance at the grassroots. He also praised Governor Oborevwori and Speaker Emomotimi Guwor for their support in driving the initiative.
In his remarks, Oshimili North Chairman, Innocent Esewuzie, highlighted key projects of his administration, including modern markets in Ugbolu, Akwukwu-Igbo, Illah, and Ebu, the nearly completed Okpaman Cottage Hospital, and the deployment of drones and CCTV cameras to curb kidnapping.

On his part, Oshimili South Chairman, Kelvin Ezenyili, outlined achievements such as a two-storey shopping plaza at Ogbogonogo Market, an event centre in Oko, an administrative office complex under construction, and restoration of electricity in some Asaba communities through transformer purchases. He also noted the acquisition of new security equipment to enhance safety.
The visit climaxed with inspection of completed and ongoing projects in both council areas. The committee is expected to continue its tour in other LGAs across the state.
