Delta APC Disowns Alleged Legal Adviser’s Letter, Rejects Call for Reinstatement of Ethiope West Officials

The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned and outrightly rejected a letter allegedly issued by the party’s National Legal Adviser, Murtala Aliyu Kankia, Esq., purportedly directing the reinstatement of removed officials of the APC in Ethiope West Local Government Area.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, the party, under the leadership of its State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, described the circulating letter and an accompanying internal memo as fake, misleading and constitutionally defective.

The documents reportedly claim to convey a “legal opinion” mandating the reinstatement of the former Ethiope West APC Chairman, Mr. Efe Amughoro, and his Vice Chairman.

The party said it found the content of the letter strange and unacceptable, stressing that while the National Legal Adviser is empowered to render legal opinions when requested, he lacks the authority to issue binding directives or orders without the approval of the National Working Committee (NWC).

According to the Delta APC, disciplinary issues at the local or state level fall squarely within the collective jurisdiction of the NWC and can only be reviewed or overturned through resolutions reached at a duly convened NWC meeting. The statement noted that the purported letter made no reference to any such meeting, deliberation or resolution.

“In the absence of NWC approval, the document remains null, void and of no effect, and cannot create any legal or administrative obligation on the Delta State APC,” the party stated.

The party further described the circulation of the letter as a deliberate attempt to mislead members, create confusion, undermine constitutionally recognised party organs and destabilise the APC structure in Ethiope West Local Government Area.

Consequently, the Delta APC categorically disowned the letter and urged party members, stakeholders, security agencies and the general public to disregard it completely, insisting that it does not reflect the official position or directive of the party’s national leadership.

Reaffirming its commitment to internal democracy, constitutional supremacy and due process, the party called on its members to remain calm, law-abiding and loyal to the existing leadership and structures of the APC in Ethiope West LGA.

The statement was signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, Esq., and dated December 18, 2025.
