Delta APC Debunks Crisis, Reaffirms Peaceful Congress Plans

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has dismissed a report by SaharaReporters alleging a crisis within the party over the conduct of its ward and local government congresses, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement jointly signed by State Chairman, Omeni Sobotie, and State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, the party said the publication was “completely unfounded, baseless, grossly misleading, speculative, and without any iota of truth.”

The Delta APC said the report falsely portrayed the party’s consensus arrangements as imposition of executives, insisting that the process followed due consultation and party guidelines.

“It is a sensational narrative built on rumours and half-truths, laced with deliberate distortions apparently designed to sow discord within the party, misinform the public, create unnecessary tension, and undermine the unity and internal democratic processes of our great party,” the statement read.

The party explained that a duly constituted stakeholders’ meeting held on January 23, 2026, brought together leaders from the three senatorial districts, who unanimously adopted the consensus arrangement to ensure peaceful and transparent congresses.

According to the statement, the consensus approach is recognised within the party’s constitution and is intended to promote inclusiveness, strengthen cohesion, and prevent rancour.

“At no time was any individual or group empowered to impose candidates outside the collective decisions reached by stakeholders,” the party stated.

The APC added that the arrangement has been successfully implemented across wards and local government areas, yielding “satisfactory and widely accepted outcomes.”

The party also rejected claims of hijacking, manipulation of executive lists, or the use of financial inducements, describing them as fabrications.

“The leadership of the Delta State APC has neither authorized nor condoned any act of intimidation, coercion, or anti-party conduct. These allegations are baseless fabrications that exist only in the imagination of the authors of the report,” the statement said.

Reaffirming its commitment to internal democracy, fairness, and due process, the party urged members and the public to disregard the report.

The Delta APC emphasized that it remains united and focused on building strong party structures ahead of future political engagements, while calling on the media to verify facts before publication.

“We call on the media to uphold the highest standards of responsible journalism by verifying facts before publication and avoiding reports capable of unnecessarily heating up the polity,” the statement concluded.

The party reassured stakeholders of its commitment to transparency and the peaceful conduct of its congresses across the state.
