Breaking News: Dino Melaye Officially Resigns from PDP, Criticizes Party Leadership

Former Senator who represented Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s failure to provide effective leadership capable of addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

In a resignation letter dated July 4, 2025, addressed to the PDP chairman of Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area, Kogi State, Melaye announced his decision to quit the party at all levels of involvement. The letter was made public on Thursday via Melaye’s verified X (formerly Twitter) account.

“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement,” Melaye declared.

Melaye faulted the PDP’s leadership, describing it as lacking both potency and capacity to rescue Nigerians from what he termed “political cankerworms” deeply embedded in the nation’s governance structure.

“Having carefully reflected on the state of the party, I can no longer in good conscience participate in its activities or support its agenda,” he explained.

The former senator, who was the PDP’s governorship candidate in Kogi State during the 2023 elections, said his decision followed a deep personal introspection about the direction and future of the party.

“In view of the above, please consider this my formal withdrawal from the party and all its activities, effective immediately,” he concluded.

Dino Melaye’s resignation underscores growing dissatisfaction within the PDP ranks as Nigeria grapples with complex political and socio-economic challenges. Observers say this move could signal further realignments ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
