Asaba People Endorse Oborevwori For Continuity, As Monarch Lauds Development Strides

The people of Asaba in Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State have formally endorsed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to continue in office until 2031, declaring their unflinching support for his re-election bid in the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement came on Wednesday during a high-level courtesy visit to the Governor at Government House, Asaba, led by the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON. The revered monarch was accompanied by a delegation of prominent chiefs and stakeholders from the Asaba Kingdom.

Commending the Governor’s administration for its landmark achievements in infrastructure, human capital development, and urban renewal, the Asagba described Oborevwori’s leadership as “people-oriented and unassailable.”

“The love of my people for you is boundless, unshakable and irreversible. In the past two years of your administration, Asaba has witnessed rapid urbanization, improved security, and exponential investment across sectors, making it one of the fastest-growing state capitals in Africa,” the monarch said.

The traditional ruler also expressed heartfelt appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for personally presenting him with the staff of office in November 2024, a gesture he said symbolizes honour not just to him but to the entire Asaba people.

While pledging continued support for the administration, Prof. Azinge also made a case for greater inclusion of Asaba indigenes in strategic government appointments. He appealed for the resumption of work at the International Conference Centre, the formulation of a comprehensive master plan for Asaba, and urgent interventions in key sectors such as electricity, water, roads, education, and healthcare in surrounding communities.

In his response, Governor Oborevwori thanked the Asagba and the people of Asaba for their unwavering loyalty and partnership, describing traditional rulers as indispensable allies in governance.

“It is always a pleasure to receive our revered traditional rulers whose wisdom and counsel continue to guide us. Since your ascension, Your Majesty, you have brought peace, unity and cultural pride to the Asaba Kingdom,” he stated.

The Governor assured the delegation of his administration’s commitment to the sustained development of the state capital. He highlighted ongoing road construction and rehabilitation projects, including the re-awarded stormwater drainage works to CCECC, the resurfacing of Nnebisi Road with streetlights, and various internal road projects under the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency.

Oborevwori also disclosed that the Federal Government has awarded the reconstruction of the Summit Junction–Head Bridge axis of the Benin–Asaba Expressway to Heartland Construction Company. He noted that the state government is playing a supporting role in compensating persons affected by the Second Niger Bridge road project.

Reiterating his administration’s focus on inclusive governance and sustainable development, the Governor urged the Asaba people to extend similar support to President Bola Tinubu, stressing the importance of political alignment with the Federal Government to attract greater investments to Delta State.

“Asaba is the face of our state, and we must continue to make it beautiful and secure. Working together with our traditional rulers and communities, we will deliver more projects and ensure peace and progress in our state,” he concluded.
