ASH Intensifies Staff Health Monitoring to Boost Healthy Workforce

The management of Asaba Specialist Hospital (ASH) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the health and wellbeing of its workforce through sustained medical monitoring initiatives aimed at boosting staff morale and enhancing service delivery.

Speaking at the flag-off of the hospital’s annual Staff Comprehensive Medical Check-up, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Peace Ighosevwe, described the exercise as a deliberate strategy to monitor and safeguard the health of medical personnel.

She explained that the programme, scheduled to run from the 4th to the 8th, reflects the hospital’s recognition of the critical role healthcare workers play, while also addressing the often-overlooked need for them to prioritise their own wellbeing.

According to Dr. Ighosevwe, the demanding nature of healthcare duties often leads professionals to neglect routine medical checks, despite their dedication to patient care.

“These are individuals who work tirelessly to ensure the recovery and comfort of patients, yet they sometimes overlook the need to regularly assess their own health status,” she said.

The CMD noted that the initiative, now in its third year, serves not only as a preventive health measure but also as a morale-boosting effort designed to keep staff physically and mentally fit, thereby improving productivity and the overall quality of care.

She stressed that maintaining a healthy workforce remains critical to sustaining an efficient healthcare system, adding that the hospital will continue to implement programmes that support staff welfare and professional effectiveness.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Rural Roads, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, commended the CMD and staff for their dedication to the day-to-day running of the facility. He urged workers to prioritise their health in order to live healthier and more productive lives.

Aniagwu further lauded the state government for its commitment to equipping healthcare facilities across the state, encouraging staff to fully participate in the programme, which he described as beneficial to both management and employees.

Beneficiaries of previous editions of the initiative also praised the hospital management for the gesture and appealed for its sustenance, noting that it has significantly contributed to improving staff access to quality healthcare.
