Awani Condemns Armed Attack on Tantita Base, Vows Justice on Perpetrators

The General Coordinator of the Itsekiri Cluster of Tantita Security Services, Mr. Esimaje Awani, has strongly condemned the recent armed attack on the Okorho Ubarira Unit One Base, describing it as a deliberate act of sabotage against national assets.

The attack, which occurred around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, involved a group of heavily armed men who reportedly stormed the facility by boat, opened fire on personnel, and set structures as well as operational boats ablaze. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident.

Speaking during an inspection visit to the affected base, Awani assured that those responsible for the attack would be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

“This is an unlawful and deeply disturbing act. We will ensure that those behind this attack are brought to justice,” he said.

The incident comes just days after a joint committee of the National Assembly passed a vote of confidence in Tantita Security Services, reaffirming its critical role in pipeline surveillance and the fight against crude oil theft.

Awani emphasized that Tantita has continued to play a significant role in youth empowerment, community development, and the protection of Nigeria’s economic interests.

“It is unfortunate that anyone would rise against an organisation that has consistently supported progress and safeguarded critical national assets,” he stated.

He further warned that calls for the decentralisation of the pipeline surveillance contract could embolden illegal bunkering activities, posing serious risks to oil production and the nation’s economy.

“Those pushing for decentralisation are indirectly encouraging the resurgence of oil theft. This is a threat we must all resist,” Awani added.

The Itsekiri Cluster Coordinator reiterated that acts of sabotage would not be tolerated, stressing that all perpetrators would face the full weight of the law.

He also commended the National Assembly joint committee for its recent endorsement of Tantita Security Services, noting that the move reflects a shared commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s economic growth and security architecture.
