Port Harcourt — In a major political development in Rivers State, the Rivers Grassroot Movement (RGM) has declared its full support for the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, while also urging Siminalayi Fubara to seek a second term in office.
The declaration was made during a large rally held at Isaac Boro Park, where thousands of supporters from across the 23 local government areas of the state gathered in a show of political solidarity.
Addressing the crowd, the National Leader of RGM, Sobomabo Jackrich, described the event as a defining moment for the state.
“This gathering is not just historic; it is a loud statement that Rivers people are united in one voice and one purpose to advance the Renewed Hope mandate,” Jackrich said.
He explained that the group’s endorsement of President Tinubu was based on what he described as “visible and verifiable achievements,” particularly in infrastructure and regional development across the South-South.
Jackrich pointed to the completion of the Bonny-Bodo Road and the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project as evidence of the administration’s commitment.
“For years, critical projects in our region remained abandoned. Today, we are seeing real progress. The Bonny-Bodo Road is now a reality, and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road will open up unprecedented economic opportunities for our people,” he stated.
The RGM leader also highlighted the establishment of the South-South Development Commission as a landmark move toward addressing developmental challenges in the region.
On the activities of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Jackrich commended its Managing Director, Samuel Ogbuku, for revitalising the agency.
“Under Dr. Ogbuku’s leadership, the NDDC has become more responsive and impactful. Projects are being delivered, and communities are beginning to feel the presence of government again,” he said.
In recognition of his performance, the group inducted Ogbuku as a member of its Board of Trustees.
The movement also acknowledged the contributions of Seyi Tinubu, particularly through youth engagement initiatives.
“Seyi Tinubu has played a significant role in connecting young Nigerians to the vision of the current administration. His efforts in youth mobilisation are commendable,” Jackrich noted.
RGM subsequently named President Tinubu as its Grand Patron, while Seyi Tinubu was designated as Patron of the movement.
On security and economic recovery, the group praised the Federal Government’s decision to retain Tantita Security Services for pipeline surveillance, noting improvements in crude oil production and youth employment.
“The increase in oil production and the reduction in pipeline vandalism have had a direct positive impact on our economy and the livelihoods of our people,” Jackrich added.
Turning to state matters, the group lauded Governor Fubara’s leadership style, describing it as inclusive and people-focused.
“Governor Fubara’s ‘Rivers People First’ approach has restored peace, promoted equity, and set the state on a path of sustainable growth. We strongly urge him to seek a second term to consolidate these gains,” he said.
The RGM further called on residents of the state and the wider South-South region to support what it described as continuity in leadership at both state and federal levels.
“No other candidate currently matches President Tinubu’s capacity to deliver victory and sustained development for our region. Continuity is key to securing the future we all desire,” Jackrich concluded.
The rally marks a significant political statement ahead of the 2027 general elections, signalling growing grassroots mobilisation in support of both the President and the Rivers State Governor.
