The Delta State Government has announced plans to commence a comprehensive screening and verification exercise for all political appointees in the state public service, beginning from Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
The exercise, which is aimed at confirming the status of political appointees, will be conducted by a verification committee constituted by the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori. According to the government, the screening is a routine measure designed to ensure accurate records through periodic checks on appointees, including confirmation of exits arising from natural causes, migration, or other factors.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, the committee has been mandated to conduct physical verification of all political appointees in Delta State, produce a detailed report on the outcome of the exercise, and carry out any other assignments incidental to the verification process.
Dr. Odinigwe Odigwe, Honourable Commissioner for Science and Technology, will serve as Chairman of the committee. Other members include Chief Onoriode Sunday, State Director of Protocol in the Office of the Governor; Mr. Oghoro Augustine Ede, Executive Assistant on Public Service Matters; Mrs. Athora Roseline, Deputy Director (Accounts) in the Office of the Accountant General; while Mr. Felix Irevwi, Deputy Director (Administration) in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, will serve as Secretary.
The screening and verification exercise will span 21 days and will be carried out across the federal constituencies in the state according to a scheduled timetable.
The exercise begins with Oshimili/Aniocha Federal Constituency on January 28 and 29, followed by Ika Federal Constituency on February 4, Ndokwa/Ukuani on February 5, Isoko on February 11, Ughelli/Udu on February 12, Ethiope on February 18, Okpe/Sapele/Uvwie on February 19, Warri Federal Constituency on February 25, and concludes with Burutu/Patani Federal Constituency on February 26, 2026.
