Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reacted with deep grief to the death of former Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi, saying the state has lost one of its most courageous and committed political leaders.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor said the passing of the former lawmaker was a painful loss not only to Delta State but also to the Anioma nation and the country at large.
Governor Oborevwori described Senator Nwaoboshi as a proud son of Delta State whose contributions to nation-building, particularly his steadfast defence of Anioma interests, would remain unforgettable.
He recalled the late senator’s impactful tenure in the National Assembly, where he served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, noting that his bold advocacy for the development of the Niger Delta and Delta State earned him wide respect.
The governor further noted that Senator Nwaoboshi’s rise in politics was built on a strong political pedigree, selfless service and an unyielding commitment to democratic values, which culminated in his meritorious service as a two-time Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State.
According to Oborevwori, the late senator lived a life of dedication to his people, his party and the nation, leaving behind enduring legacies of loyalty, courage and public service.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the passing of my dear friend, Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi,” the governor said.
He extended his condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, the Anioma nation, members of the All Progressives Congress and all those affected by the loss, praying God to grant the departed eternal rest and comfort to his loved ones.
