PDP Crisis Deepens As Osun State Governor, Adeleke Resigns from Party Ahead of Primary Election

With less than a day to the scheduled governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced his resignation from the party.

His decision followed reports earlier on Monday that the PDP in Osun would no longer conduct the primary election on Tuesday due to deepening factional disputes. The state party chairman, Sunday Bisi, had confirmed the suspension of the exercise, stating that the governor had withdrawn his interest in seeking the PDP ticket amid the crisis.

However, a conflicting directive from the PDP national secretariat insisted that the primary would still proceed as planned at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo.

Amid the uncertainty, a letter dated November 4, 2025, and purportedly signed by Governor Adeleke, surfaced on Monday evening. In the letter, addressed to the chairman of Sagba Ward 2, Ede, the governor formally tendered his resignation from the PDP.

Citing leadership issues at the national level, Adeleke wrote: “Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect.”

He also expressed gratitude to the party for providing the platform on which he was elected both as Senator representing Osun West and later as Governor of Osun State.
