Ogiame Atuwatse III Delivers Keynote Lecture at AFCSC Jaji, Calls for Stronger Family Values to Bolster National Security

His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, the Olu of Warri, Wednesday delivered the keynote lecture at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, Kaduna, during the final training exercise Haske Biyu 2025 for senior military officers from Nigeria and other partner nations, alongside stakeholders in the security sector.

Speaking on the theme, “Strengthening Family Values as a Force for National Security: The Role of Traditional Institutions,” His Majesty underscored the vital role of family discipline, moral values, and the enduring influence of traditional institutions in sustaining peace and stability across the nation.

According to him, national security extends beyond military capacity and weaponry, being deeply rooted in the moral fabric of society.

He called for stronger collaboration between the armed forces and traditional institutions, stressing that values nurtured within families and communities provide the foundation for national cohesion, unity, and resilience.

“When moral integrity is upheld across society, it becomes a force multiplier for peace and progress,” Ogiame noted, urging a nationwide introspection and a societal shift toward restoring core values as part of long-term security strategies.

Commending the college and the organizers for the invitation, the monarch encouraged participants to integrate the wisdom gained during their training into a broader values-driven approach to national security. He expressed hope that as the officers advance in their careers, they would contribute meaningfully to building a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.

After his lecture, His Majesty was warmly received by the Commandant of the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) during a brief but memorable reception at the Academy grounds. Addressing cadets currently enrolled at the institution, he commended their dedication to service and urged them to be exemplary ambassadors of their families and the Academy as they prepare to complete their training.

The lecture and visit were widely regarded as a timely reminder of the need to blend military professionalism with moral and cultural values in addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
