The Niger Delta Peace Awareness Movement (NDPAM) has strongly condemned a recent protest by the Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Forum, at the NNPCL Tower Abuja, describing it as politically motivated and lacking genuine concern for the welfare of Niger Deltans.
According to Alhaji Awo H.D Amir, National Leader, Niger Delta Peace Awareness Movement, the protest, which called for the sack of Bayo Ojulari, Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), is rooted in ethnic bias.
”The NNPCL is a federal government-owned corporation, and demanding Ojulari’s removal simply because he’s not from the Niger Delta region is unfair and laughable,” Alhaji Awo H.D Amir stated.
”Every Nigerian is qualified for the job, and NNPCL doesn’t belong to any particular region.”
Alhaji Awo H.D Amir emphasized that Ojulari is doing his best to revitalize the NNPCL, particularly the refineries, which have been non-functional for years. “The refineries were not working before Ojulari’s appointment, and blaming him for their non-functionality is wicked and unpatriotic,” he said.
The NDPAM urged Niger Delta youths to refrain from making fictitious allegations against Ojulari and the NNPCL, stressing that there are other federal and state agencies, as well as multinational companies, where Niger Deltans can seek employment and development opportunities.
”We need to stop this selective clamping of NNPCL and look at the bigger picture,” Alhaji Awo H.D Amir said. “There are many ways to contribute to the development of the Niger Delta region, rather than always shifting the blame to NNPCL. I urge the youths to take ownership of their communities and contribute to their development, rather than relying on protests and demands for handouts.”
He also questioned the sincerity of the protesters, asking how many of them would be willing to work if given the opportunity. “Are they looking for genuine solutions or just using these opportunities to demand money and wait for the next opportunity to arise?” he asked.
The Niger Delta Peace Awareness Movement called on the Niger Delta youths to stop using protests and demands as a means to an end, and instead focus on contributing to the development of their communities. “It’s time to stop these gimmicks and work towards meaningful solutions that benefit everyone,” Awo H.D Amir concluded.
