The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, has inspected preparations for his fifth coronation anniversary in Okere, Warri, Delta State, in a move that underscored his hands-on approach to leadership.
The monarch carried out the on-the-spot assessment during his morning fitness routine, riding an electric scooter through parts of the area while accompanied by members of his security team.
A video of the inspection, shared on the monarch’s Facebook page on Saturday, showed him moving around the community as preparations for the anniversary continued. The post was captioned: “His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, as part of his fitness regimen, this morning conducted an on-the-spot assessment tour of preparations towards the coming 5th Coronation anniversary.”
The monarch’s appearance drew the attention of residents and passers-by, who hailed and cheered him as he moved around the area. His interaction with the community also generated positive reactions on social media, with several Facebook users commending his accessibility and demeanour.
Reacting to the post, Iniobong Esen described the monarch’s style of leadership as commendable, arguing that leaders should be able to move freely among their people and experience their everyday realities rather than remain isolated from them.
Another Facebook user, Avwerosuo Amos Govina, described Ogiame Atuwatse III as a king with “class and charisma,” while Enujeke Prosper referred to him as “the Digital king with a difference.”
The inspection comes as the Warri Kingdom prepares to mark the fifth anniversary of the monarch’s coronation, with Ogiame Atuwatse III continuing to attract attention for his public engagements, modern approach to traditional leadership and close connection with his people.
