The National Assembly Primary Election Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Delta State has assured party members and aspirants of a smooth, transparent and credible primary election across the three senatorial districts of the state.
Chairman of the committee, Rt. Hon. Eugene Odo, gave the assurance on Monday in Asaba while briefing journalists ahead of the party’s National Assembly primaries.
Odo, who spoke alongside members of the seven-man committee, disclosed that sensitive and non-sensitive election materials had already been distributed to wards and local government areas across the state to ensure hitch-free conduct of the exercise.
According to him, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as well as security personnel had also been deployed to various locations to monitor the process and maintain order during the primaries.
“We are fully prepared for this exercise,” Odo stated. “Necessary arrangements have been concluded to guarantee a free, fair and transparent primary election that will reflect the true wishes of APC members in Delta State.”
He explained that the party adopted the direct primary mode in order to deepen internal democracy and provide equal opportunities for all aspirants contesting various National Assembly positions.
“The essence of direct primaries is to allow every registered member of the party to participate in choosing our candidates. This process gives power back to the grassroots and strengthens confidence in the democratic process within the party,” he said.
The committee chairman further revealed that members of the committee had been divided into three monitoring groups, each assigned to one of the senatorial districts to supervise the exercise and ensure strict compliance with party guidelines.
“We have split members of the committee into different teams to effectively coordinate and monitor activities across Delta North, Delta Central and Delta South senatorial districts. Our goal is to ensure that the process is seamless, peaceful and credible in all parts of the state,” he added.
Odo urged party faithful, aspirants and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid actions capable of disrupting the exercise.
He stressed that the APC leadership remains committed to transparency, fairness and unity, expressing confidence that the outcome of the primaries would further strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We appeal to all party members to remain calm, orderly and law-abiding throughout the exercise. APC is determined to conduct primaries that every member can be proud of,” he said.
